Watch Size Guide

Finding the perfect watch size is essential for both comfort and style. Whether you prefer a subtle, understated look or a bold statement piece, this guide will help you choose the right Tense wood watch for your wrist.

How to Measure Your Wrist

To find your ideal watch size, start by measuring your wrist circumference:

  1. Wrap a flexible measuring tape (or a strip of paper) snugly around your wrist, just above the wrist bone.
  2. Note the measurement in centimetres or inches.
  3. Use the chart below to find your recommended case width range.

Recommended Watch Size by Wrist

Wrist Circumference Recommended Case Width Size Category Best For
14 cm (5.5") or less 20 – 30 mm Small Petite wrists, delicate style
14 – 17 cm (5.5" – 6.7") 31 – 38 mm Medium Most wrist sizes, versatile everyday wear
17 – 19 cm (6.7" – 7.5") 38 – 44 mm Large Larger wrists, bold statement
19 cm (7.5") or more 44 – 55 mm Extra Large Larger wrists, oversized look

Understanding Watch Dimensions

When choosing a watch, there are three key measurements to consider:

Case Width (Diameter)

This is the most important dimension — it determines how large the watch face appears on your wrist. A good rule of thumb: the watch case should cover no more than about 75% of your wrist width. Tense watches range from 20 mm to 55 mm in case width.

Case Thickness

Thickness affects how the watch sits on your wrist and under a shirt cuff. Thinner cases (8–10 mm) offer a sleek, low-profile look, while thicker cases (11–13 mm) have more presence. Most Tense watches fall in the 10 – 13 mm range.

Band Width

The band width should be proportional to the case. Wider bands (20–27 mm) pair with larger cases, while narrower bands (13–15 mm) complement smaller watch faces. Our wood bands are crafted for a natural, comfortable fit.

Sizing Tips

1. Consider your personal style. If you prefer a minimalist, understated look, opt for a smaller or medium case. If you enjoy making a bold statement, go for a larger case.

2. Think about the occasion. A medium-sized watch (34–38 mm) is the most versatile choice, working well for both casual and formal settings. Larger watches tend to be more casual and sporty.

3. Wood adds character. Unlike metal watches, Tense wood watches are lightweight and warm to the touch. This means even larger case sizes feel comfortable on the wrist without the heaviness of a traditional oversized watch.

4. Try before you buy. If you are unsure, cut out a circle the size of the case width from a piece of paper and hold it against your wrist. This gives you a visual preview of how the watch face will look.

5. Band adjustability. All Tense wood band watches come with removable links, so the band can be adjusted to fit your wrist perfectly. If you need additional links removed, we are happy to help — just contact us.
